Item Details
If anyone still needs convincing that the William Comyns team turned out some of the best late Victorian, early 20th Century eccentricities, I would suggest that this diminutive desk provides sufficient testimony to what must undoubtedly be regarded by most people, as fact.
Just as the great furniture makers understood, William Comyns too, took great care to ensure the proportions were right. In this case the legs are nicely proportioned, elegant and slightly understated. This approach in turn elevates the desktop to a whole different level, a veritable ‘tour de force’ showing the skills of the artisans when working to bring together straight lines for the desk, fineness of touch for the silver inlay and excellence in finish and stylish but limited decoration.

The tortoiseshell is an absolute delight, silver is; good, solid and straight and a new simple interior treatment with velvet in a pale turquoise hue compliments it all.
