Item Details
This delightful hallmarked silver Child's knife, fork, spoon and napkin ring are enclosed in a custom case and come from the respected Mappin & Webb Brothers.
What is interesting is that the set was manufactured and hallmarked in London and then exported to France and retailed by Mappin & Webb at their Paris outlet. As a result the bespoke case bears the phrase "Fabrication Anglaise" and each item of silver "Imported D'Angleterre". Item are engraved with the letters 'L.G.V.M.' which are presumably the abbreviated 'given names' of the intended recipient.
Further intrigue is added in that the napkin ring pre-dates all the other items in the set by six years, bearing the date letter 'u' [1915] instead of 'f' [1921]? However, the design and style of each item is consistent in theme and execution.
A final detail that may be of interest is; that all of the 1921 hallmarked items bear the 'slanted rectangle' mark of the single silversmith (be they be an employee or journeyman) who made them.
