Here is a substantial smelling salts bottle comprising; a heavy gauge silver mount complete with a gilt interior to the lid. Continuing the heavy theme, the simple glass body is also weight and has a wheel cut star incised to the base. Inside a wide, deep (and heavy too) glass stopper completes one of the best we have seen in a long time. However, when we identified this item as being made by Edward Souter Barnsley & Co, we were more understanding, realising that this was indeed an exceptional bottle from a very well regarded silversmith. E S Barnsley & Co were active at Frederick Street, Birmingham from 1895 till 1921. Their mark was registered in November 1887 and again in September 1908.
