Item Details
This fascinating Hat Pin stand looks almost alien, but nevertheless makes for a very interesting Hat Pin Stand.
In essence the cushioned sides could be used as pin cushions but the pads are stuffed with the original sawdust, so it may be as well to rely on their decorative value rather than use them too vigorously as a sewers pincushion.
The four trumpets to the top of the silver band are very serviceable for the safe custody of hat pins and appear well used over the past century or so.
There is a Patent No. impressed into the base and reads '4092'.
Alas the makers mark is well rubbed and in our research we have been unable to find a similar item, thereby allowing us to attribute this one. We have also not been able to identify the specifics of the Patent Number as yet.
If anyone has a similar article or knows the maker, we would be very grateful to be enlightened.

The condition of this rare Hatpin Stand is good despite the rubbed hallmarks, the light surface scratching, the dinks to the base and the slight lean it has, all of which should be expected in an item; sat on several dressing tables for over a hundred years and the target of hundreds if not thousands of sharp hatpins. The original velvet has been replaced with hand dyed period velvet.
