Larkin & Gallow are pleased to offer this antique Officers English leather dressing table box, with a fitted interior; purchased from the respected manufacturer 'Thomas Keane' of Worcester Street, Birmingham and dates to the early 1900's. Contained in the robust and extremely heavy [ 10-11 kilos gross packed weight] leather clad box are a full set of silver topped toilet bottles [assayed in Birmingham] made by another Birmingham manufacturer of considerable repute; Alexander Clark who were also known as the Alexander Manufacturing Co. and who retailed from a London Shop at 188 Oxford Street. These seven bottles are contained in a 'lift out' morocco leather carrier that can be either; left in the box, used as a standalone 'A Frame' dressing table containment, or used to hang over the edge of the case with the built in attachment provided. This carrier also accommodates a morocco leather clad vesta case and combined striker, along with a morocco clad travelling ink-well. There a few (x5) further silver lidded bottles assayed in London between 1912-13. These all have a miss-struck makers mark that may be by William Geiger (?). There is also another unrelated white metal clad travelling ink-well. The lift out carrier also has a; matching morocco leather - manicure set holder and a similar stationary folder. A small box attached to the base of the box contains several wooden map pins contemporary with all the other items.

Condition IconCondition
Condition is good although new leather straps (part currently missing) and a replacement handle would be advisable. The silver and glass condition is largely good (noting the mis-strikes described on the five additional bottles). Purchasers may elect to thoroughly restore the leather-work that is solid, but cracked to exposed areas. The interior could be refreshed with a thorough clean and some restoration some of the the pockets on the interior sidewalls. The morocco leather is largely good, with only a little patch or two of abrasion and a couple of small repaired seam tears. This is an opportunity to improve a serviceable antique and create a delightful piece of luggage that will offer another century or two. Please look at all of the photographs in order to fully appreciate the condition and the opportunity these items provide.
